Chandigarh, December 12:
The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has issued directions to singer Diljit Dosanjh and the organizers of his concert scheduled to be held in Chandigarh on December 14. The directions prohibit the singing of songs that promote alcohol, drugs or violence. Songs like “Patiala Pug,” “5 Tara Thedke,” and “Kes” have been specifically mentioned. The ban will also apply to any altered or different versions of the songs.
The directive emphasizes that these songs can have a negative impact on children, who are of an impressionable age.
In addition, the panel has directed the organizers to refrain from inviting children on stage during their live performances where the sound level exceeds 120 decibels. Along with this, the directive has also directed to prohibit the serving of alcohol to persons below the age of 25 years. It has also been warned that legal action can be taken as per the Juvenile Justice Act and other legal provisions.
In November 2024, a complaint was also filed against Diljit Dosanjh in Telangana, where the District Child Welfare Officer issued a notice regarding the impact of similar songs. In that case, Dosanjh refrained from taking children on stage and even changed the lyrics of some songs.
Pandit Rao Dhrenawar expressed confidence that Diljit Dosanjh will follow the Commission’s instructions and prioritize the welfare of children. Earlier, Dhrenawar had also raised issues against other singers, such as Karan Aujla, which resulted in Aujla refraining from singing certain songs during his performance on December 7, 2024.
